Is it you we’re looking for?

A confident and capable cook, preferably with experience in a non-domestic kitchen. The ideal candidate is meticulous and has a keen eye for detail in both presentation and cleanliness. You are passionate about food, and always willing to try new flavours or cuisines. Kitchen prep and service are both enjoyable, and you’re happy jointing a chicken, gutting a trout or helping write a Sunday menu. You might have worked in large scale catering or an intimate supper club, or perhaps you’re the best cook in the family. You work well as part of a small team but are able to take the initiative and work independently when required. You’re creative and enjoy experimenting with new menu ideas. The ideal candidates will pick things up quickly, asking questions and offering their own ideas for ways to improve.

Experience:

Must have experience cooking from fresh ingredients. Formal qualifications are not required.

Job Description:

  • Working as part of the kitchen team
  • Developing menu ideas & theme menus
  • Cooking meals to order
  • Preparation of ingredients
  • Stock maintenance and supply orders
  • Cleaning the kitchen and maintenance of equipment

Who are we?

Palmer’s Ale House & Kitchen (that’s us) is a real ale pub, with a strong focus on locally sourced ingredients, sustainability and accessibility. Recently reopened by Sophie, Nick and Kate, we are a family-run pub with a small but dedicated team. Located in the picturesque market town of Long Sutton, we take our environmental footprint very seriously sourcing our food and beer from as locally as possible.

At Palmers we aim to create an informal friendly atmosphere in the kitchen as well as in the bar, and although we do have a head chef, menus are planned collaboratively and we encourage every person in the kitchen to contribute to discussions. We strive to be welcoming and inclusive to people of all backgrounds and identities, particularly people of colour, lgbtq+ people and disabled people who are often (intentionally and unintentionally) excluded from pubs. Staff meetings happen regularly with the whole team and we positively encourage all our staff to contribute ideas on the running of the pub. As a result we have a fantastic team of long term staff, and positively promote career development.

For more info on who we are and what we do check out our Facebook Page.

What we offer:

Independence, responsibility, opportunity to build real connections with customers & other staff, regular shift pattern, friendly and welcoming staff, opportunities to develop menus, the real living wage.
